Forum Title: duplex w. backup in lower unit.
dear plumbers. we have a duplex with an upper and lower unit and an issue w/ backing up in the lower. the main from the upper unit meets the lower unit outside at the rear of the property and this is also where the main cleanout is located and shares a wall with the lower bathtub. from time to time the lower unit will back up but this is a somewhat new issue only happening with this current tenant. not to say they are related, but the only change that happened before this tenant moved in was we installed a washer/dryer in the unit. it was installed in the kitchen and may be a direct connect to the main, and if not, is very close. typically we will call the plumber out to snake the like. early september we did a 100ft cleanout w/ MD. the lower unit is backing up again via the sink, the toilet and the bathtub. the main is "clean" so we are trying to figure out what is going on and why. i asked the tenants if it's when they are both using water, the logic being the plumbing can't take the water but it happens when the lower is not using water. the lower toilet will also gurgle from time to time and around these back ups. thoughts? ideas? inspirational quotes? thanks.

After cabling is anything coming out with the cable ex.roots,t paper. Maybe during connection of washing machine drain to existing pipe some debris or objects went down the drain .. Run a camera down you're drain

yes, we pulled up: roots, cotton and a makeup pencil. we've done a camera in the past, roots towards the end of the property line where property meets city. about 100-110 ft out

If you have roots in the line the line has a break in it that needs to be repaired.
